Do you need a Plan B?
I say no. But there's other things that you need instead...
Ameet Ranadive shared some learnings from his career at Twitter, Instagram, and GetYourGuide:
👀 confront REALITY quickly
✊ IMPACT is the only thing
💧 do the SIMPLE thing first
During the keynote, I created this sketchnote:
Afterwards, I showed this to other PMs at Product Management Festival and we agreed that it was a really helpful presentation — however, some of us didn't fully agree with the input to "develop your plan B", and we wondered: can you be committed if you're working on a plan B at the same time?
What do you think? Do you need a plan B for your career, your startup, your business?
I’d claim: you don't need a plan B.
However, you probably need some of this:
You need to have a mindset that allows you to stay flexible and react, adapt or even pivot.
You need to stay curious and be interested in new opportunities and findings.
You need to be able to let go of previous ideas and solutions as you gather new information.
And (once again): you need to know your personal values (and company values), to be able to make the right decisions. If you have not yet defined your values, check out my last post, where I shared some ressources that help you with this task.
